If you’re a lover of Fried Chicken then there’s a definite chance that you’ve dined at Gregory & Naomi’s Newtown institution, Hartsyard.
Late last year, Naomi let us in on a little secret…the birdie was going along with the décor. With this shocking (fried chicken) news in hand, they took a punt on us to recreate their much-loved space. The best part, we had just under 3 x weeks and a strict budget to get it all done and dusted (!).
Never ones to back down from a good challenge, we took our tightest timeline in tow and teamed up with our friends at Martin Taylor Made to create a space that’s fresh, light and contemporary – much like Gregory’s genius new menu.
As with all of our projects, it was important that we implemented sustainable practices throughout the design process and, in the case of Hartsyard 2.0, this was all about retaining existing site features and reusing original materials where possible. The much-loved original bar still stands, just with a bit of a facelift. Timber has been repurposed throughout, and we’ve also created a new wine feature behind the bar using Gregory’s collection of terracotta pieces scored off Gumtree.
Can't quite remember how it looked before? Scroll below for some before shots and more importantly, head on down to check it out for yourself. While you’re there, don’t go past the scampi and prawn tartare.
And don’t worry, if you’re still craving that fried chicken you can find it down the road at Gregory & Naomi’s much-loved bar, The Gretz.
